I am a Licensed Acupuncturist with a Master degree of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine. I am also a NCCAOM Diplomat of Oriental Medicine, which is a practitioner who is certified by the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM®) and has met the certification requirements for both acupuncture and Chinese herbology. I currently practice Acupuncture, Chinese herbology, Tuina, Nutritional Recommendations based on Traditional Chinese Medicine, and T.A.T. in Durham, North Carolina. For more information on these different modalities of healing, please see the Services page.
My undergraduate work was in the field of Special Education Support Services. I graduated from Lee University in 2003 and immediately started working for the YMCA of Chattanooga, TN. I helped develop, write grants, and run programs for teens. I then moved on to the Center for Integrative Medicine in Chattanooga, TN. This is where I started to learn about acupuncture and integrative medicine. It didn’t take long for me to realize this was where I wanted to focus my studies. I moved to Austin, Tx the summer of '06 to attend AOMA Graduate School of Integrative Medicine to pursue her Masters degree. I have over 1000 hours of clinical practice, 672 hours acupuncture techniques and theory, 636 hours Chinese herbal medicine, herb-drug interaction, and safety precautions, 582 hours biomedical diagnostics, treatment of disease, and pharmacology. I have had great success in the treatment of anxiety, depression, menstrual disorders, pain, stress, allergies, and infertility. I am also a co-founder of Barefoot Acupuncture & Wellness, which is a (status pending) non-profit with a mission to provide community oriented health education and an Wellness clinic with complementary and alternative health care services to the city of Durham, NC and its surrounding communities. The vision is to build stronger communities through healthier citizens. I am trained in various types of acupuncture, taking particular interest in Master Tung’s points and theories, Dr. Richard Tan’s balance theory, and Mikio Sanke's Esoteric acupuncture. I am currently working towards my T.A.T. certification. I have a strong belief that the body has the ability to heal itself if we are willing to take the journey. In the words of Alberto Villoldo, "true healing is nothing less than an awakening to a vision of our healed nature and the experience of infinity". I am excited about being able to serve a community through education, acupuncture, and love. When I'm not spending time with patients, I enjoy spending time with my two dogs, healing through art, riding my bike, and being involved in the Durham community anyway I can.
